This past long weekend we had lovely weather and it was a great opportunity to be outside while still maintaining physical distance from others. The National Capital Commission announced last Thursday that the SJAM Parkway up to Dominion Transit Station would be closed to vehicles. This announcement was a good start in responding to requests for more open space for residents living near this area, but it was a disappointment to those of us who live in Bay Ward.
After some back and forth, it was resolved that this closure would be extended all the way to Carling Avenue at Lincoln Fields. This required the rerouting of OC Transpo buses from the Parkway.
I want to thank the City and OC Transpo managers for making these arrangements so Bay Ward residents could enjoy a car-free stretch of the Parkway for cycling, walking and running on the weekend. This was a huge success on the long weekend despite no prior communications on this extended road closure. I saw many families out there enjoying this space.
The closure of the full length of the Parkway continues this weekend.
I hope everyone will continue to enjoy this stretch of road to get some fresh air with their household members. The SJAM Parkway will continue to be closed to traffic on the westbound lanes from 8am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
Have a happy and healthy weekend.
