I was happy to attend a summer barbeque yesterday with tenants from 31 McEwen and Jennifer Lalonde (Executive Director, Aging in Place), Stéphane Giguère (CEO of Ottawa Community Housing), and Chandra Pasma (MPP for Ottawa West-Nepean).

Hi neighbours,

It was a busy first week of summer in Bay Ward and at City Hall!

Working with Stage 2 LRT team to improve signage and public communications for road closures
To start, I want to acknowledge and apologize to the residents of Woodroffe North for the traffic chaos in their neighbourhood last weekend. The lack of signage on Richmond Road indicating that the Kichi Zibi Mikan Parkway was closed was unacceptable, and over the past week I’ve been speaking with the Stage 2 LRT team to ensure that proper road signage and public communication plans are in place for any future road closures, including the upcoming closure of Woodroffe Ave north of Richmond.  I’ve included more information about that upcoming closure, including some answers to frequently asked questions and an updated start date in the Stage 2 section of this issue.

Transportation Master Plan
Yesterday at the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee, city staff presented the updated Transportation Master Plan. I welcome the vision of this plan, and it’s transit-first approach to planning. I will work with my colleagues across Council and the City of Ottawa to ensure funding is in place to make this vision a reality, and to realize the target of 50% of all trips in our city being made by sustainable forms of transportation by 2046.

Have a Safe and Happy Canada Day!
Canada Day is an occasion to be proud of the country we live in. It’s an opportunity to remind ourselves of all we have in this beautiful country, and especially here in our Nation’s Capital. Life is not perfect but we have a wonderful place to live. We need to continue to support our local Canadian businesses to ensure their prosperity and our economic independence. I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Canada Day. Celebrate responsibly, and remember that fireworks in public parks are not permitted without a permit, as outlined in By-law No. 2003-237.
