Lakeview is an older 1960’s community that was designed and built with a ditch drainage system. Over the years, lack of maintenance combined with modifications to ditches (i.e. infilling of ditches) and changes in driveway culvert elevations, has led to poor drainage that has, in some instances, caused flooding of properties. The re-development of homes in the community has also caused concern due to the higher imperviousness ratios of these new homes. This increase in imperviousness will only exacerbate the existing problem in the long run. Remedial measures are therefore required to improve the current drainage situation.
In 2022, the city undertook a drainage study of the area, which presented remedial measures such as ditch re-grading, driveway culvert cleaning/replacement, and improvements to the receiving storm sewer system. The study recommended undertaking these works over the course of two years, with half the community being done in one year and the other half in the other. The next step is to undertake detail design for construction. It is anticipated that detail design will start this year, which means that residents may notice survey and inspection crews in the neighbourhood this year and next year. Once design is complete, we will have detailed information to share with the community with respect to the work that will be undertaken on individual properties and will be able to provide a timeline for construction.
