Ottawa Fire Services and Enbridge Gas Inc. are teaming up to reduce fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths to zero.
Today, Friday, November 1, Ottawa Fire Services received 630 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Safe Community Project Zero, a public education campaign with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
Ottawa Fire Services will use these combination alarms for programs where residents are facing the highest risk, free of charge. For more information, contact FirePrevention@ottawa.ca(link opens email application).
These combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have a sealed 10-year battery. This single device detects the signs of a fire and exposure to carbon monoxide then provides an early warning to safely escape the building. For homeowners, combination alarms make maintenance and replacement easier as there is just one device to test each month and replace at the end of its lifecycle.
Over the past 16 years, Enbridge Gas’ funding of Safe Community Project Zero has provided more than 101,000 alarms in 75 communities across Ontario.
