Developed as an expansion to the previously run Workforce Skills Development Program, the WRP aims to train 60 youth aged 18-29 years old in the fields of customer service and administration. The curriculum – delivered by College La Cite – aligns with the entry-level job requirements for a variety of customer service and administrative jobs at the City. This program presents an opportunity to address some of the staffing pressures experienced within our organization as our goal is to hire all 60 graduates from the Workforce Readiness Program.
Participants will undergo 56 hours of training through seven training modules and will receive a Professional Certificate of Completion upon graduation. Participants will be coached through the hiring process at the City of Ottawa and will receive integral support, job preparation, and interview guidance prior to completion. We expect to refer a strong, qualified, and committed cohort of job-ready applicants by the end of the year.
Program and training will be delivered in partnership with some of the City’s community partners who have stepped forward to recruit and refer clients, offer on-site space for training, and provide wraparound supports for program participants. Those partners include:
- Catholic Center for Immigrants
- Carlington Community Health Centre
- Somali Centre for Family Services
- Performance Plus Rehabilitative Care
- Carleton University / Paul Menton Centre
- Pinecrest Queensway Community Health Centre
- Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO)
