On Wednesday December 6 members of the Woodroffe High School singing club and school concert band attended City Hall in person to perform the national anthem just before the start of final City Council meeting for 2023. They were accompanied by their dedicated teacher, Mr. Terry Duncan, who in addition to running the high school’s singing club, teaches math, concert band, grade 9 music, and musical theater. Currently Mr. Duncan is working with students on putting together the musical Fiddler on the Roof that will be performed in February. You can see the students’ performance of the national anthem here.
The singing club and concert band is made up of a special group of talented individuals from grades 10-12 who come together during their lunch hours under the guidance of their teacher Mr. Duncan to share the joy of music and camaraderie.
Woodroffe High School has always been a beacon of talent and excellence, and I am so proud that they accepted the invitation to represent Bay ward’s turn to sing O’ Canada. This opportunity has been a longstanding tradition of Ottawa City Council for Members to take turns arranging for the performance of the national anthem at regular meetings of Council.
