So, you need a building permit.
The way things worked in the past, you needed to book an appointment, carve time out of your day, make a special trip, make sure you have all your papers and drawings and information with you, do your business and then head back home or back to the work site.
The wait is over! Building Code Services is introducing something new, more befitting a major Canadian city in the digital age. A new online system to fully submit and pay for an application or permit on any mobile device, from the convenience of your own home or work
With the new Building Code Services‘ online customer portal, you can now apply for and manage all your Building Code Services applications and permits for projects such as:
- new construction
- renovations
- Decks and pool enclosures
- signage
- private road naming
- civic number and highway name change
- septic systems
- agency letter of approval and municipal notifications (AGCO)
Because it’s online, you can view or manage your applications anywhere you have access to the internet, through your office, home PC or mobile device.
If you’re using the portal for the first time, you should review these steps to help make your experience go smoothly. If you still need help with your application, you can still book an appointment and our client service centre personnel look forward to helping you.
The good news is that even more services are coming in the future, such as:
- planning applications
- right of way zoning
- private approach by-laws
- change of land use
- land severances
- tree protection
It’s a big system, processing a lot of information, so it can’t all be ready at once. For services that are not yet online, visit ottawa.ca for more information. Start using the Building Code Service online customer portal for all of your building permits and applications today!
