- Ottawa’s Reopening Plan is a cautious, phased approach with safety as the top priority.
- Mandatory cloth masks and other changes coming to OC Transpo on June 15.
- The forecast looks brighter as the City implements public health and safety measures to reopen sports fields, ball diamonds, beaches and splash pads.
- Camp Summer Fun set to begin on July 6.
- We are waiving patio and café permit fees and we’ve created a new permit for temporary private patios to help Ottawa restaurants.
- Garage sales are permitted now in Ottawa.

June 4 – What’s new
- Working together as a community, being mindful and supporting each other during the pandemic were the main themes of a media availability on June 3.
- Public washrooms are now open in five Ottawa parks with staff to monitor and clean the washrooms.
- To support economic recovery and help restaurants and retail businesses, Transportation Committee recommends creating new storefront outdoor retail spaces and allowing food trucks to operate in parking lots at approved City parks.
- OC Transpo’s Transit Service Recovery Plan includes enhanced health and safety measures and system adjustments to maintain physical distancing as ridership increases.
- The Ottawa Public Library’s new Curbside Returns and Holds Pickup service allows curbside returns at six locations staring June 8 and curbside pickups by appointment staring Monday, June 15.
- The City provided an update on summer camp programs.
- Financially impacted property owners reminded about the City’s Property Tax Hardship Deferral Program.

May 29 – What’s new Ottawa is getting ready to get back to work – find out how we’re planning to support the local economy. Watch the virtual town hall on Ottawa’s economic recovery planning on the City’s YouTube channel. Council Update for Wednesday, May 27: Council received an update on the impact of COVID-19 on the local economy and the City’s economic recovery efforts. The City is following a phased approach to restart, reset and contribute to the resiliency of the local economy. Council approved changes to the Right of Way Patio By-law. Staff will update the Transportation Committee on Wednesday, June 3 about opportunities for patios and retail businesses on private property to expand into neighbouring parking lots, private property and the City’s right of way. Can you help? The City is seeking donations of cloth masks for vulnerable residents. Flags are at half-mast as the City mourns the loss of an employee. The City releases a toolkit to help businesses reopen safely. Events that attract large numbers of participants make physical distancing impossible. The City is extending its suspension of special events, festivals and cultural programs that require City permits until Monday, August 31. The City launched a Request for Offer for motel, hotel, apartment and other property owners to provide immediate, medium and/or long term accommodations. Let’s play ball…safely! The City implements stage-one access to outdoor park facilities. Join Mayor Jim Watson on Friday, May 29 for a virtual town hall on Ottawa’s economic recovery planning. The Mayor will host a discussion on how the City and local economic development partners are working together to support the local economy and planning for economic recovery. |
