Please note that beginning Tuesday, February 6, the NCC will create a temporary access point for construction equipment in the Mud Lake sector near the Ottawa River Pathway, which will involve cutting some vegetation. This will allow the new bridge to be installed by crane in March.
The NCC has carefully selected a path for the installation of the new Mud Lake bridge that will maximize removal of invasive buckthorn shrubs while minimizing the loss of native trees. Native vegetation will be removed only where absolutely necessary to accommodate the arrival and installation of the bridge. A tree compensation plan will be implemented in June 2024, after a thorough review by the NCC Forestry team.
This work had been scheduled to take place last year, as noted in the project update newsletter sent on November 9, 2023. The project is still on track to be completed in summer 2024. For more information, please see the project webpage.
