Thank you to all those who have emailed my office to RSVP their participation for the tour of the new Corkstown Transitional Housing facility for families this Sunday afternoon. We reached the maximum capacity for the tour as of Monday January 30 at 9am. Anyone who has registered prior to this would have received a confirmation email from my office. Please note that photos and videos will NOT be permitted in the building to ensure the safety of future residents.
City staff are currently working to finalize the necessary tasks to welcome families into the transitional housing facility. Their primary concern is to ensure the privacy and comfort of the families who will soon be living there. Given the sensitive nature of their circumstances, it is essential that we respect their privacy and provide them with a secure and welcoming environment. As part of this process, additional tours of the facility will not be possible.
I appreciate the over whelming interest and support my office has received from the community on this initiative.
This facility will provide onsite programming with a residential component, as well as supports for many families in need.
Supports include:
- life skills training
- newcomer supports (e.g. interpretation services, help to find a job, employment training, help with immigration process)
- education
- access to financialassistance as well as community agencies, etc.
City of Ottawa staff will be on site 24 hours a day/7 days a week. This will include providing help and assistance to families in their day to day living, while working directly with families to obtain more long-term suitable housing for them as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
