Welcome Back Social Garden Party
I had the pleasure of attending a picnic in the park that was organized by the wonderful staff and volunteers of The Olde Forge Community Resource Center on Carling Avenue. It was a “Welcome Back Social Garden Party” where seniors were invited to bring a lawn chair and share some time together in a safe environment setting complete with fresh air, musical entertainment and food. It was so heart warning to see the smiles on everyone’s face as they reconnected. For some this was the first time they’d socialized in person for many months.
For over 175 years the Olde Forge, located at 2730 Carling Avenue, has been an important part of our community and over the years has become a focal point for help and caring in the neighbourhood.
Olde Forge provides a wide range of community support services for seniors in Ottawa. The services include Footcare, Day and Luncheon Programs, Home Help and Home Maintenance and Home Visits.
During the pandemic The Olde Forge help keep many seniors virtually connected, when they were unable to connect in person, through their Tablet Lending Program. The program provided tablets equipped with data along with technological support and training so seniors could access the internet without having a home plan.
If you or someone you know would like to learn more about the incredible work and services that they provide or are interested in volunteering I encourage you to visit The Olde Forge website.
