The Public Policy Development Branch in Emergency and Protective Services has recently launched a public-facing project page for the Clothing Donation Box By-law Review.
The review will address issues raised such as maintenance/appearance of donation boxes, the unauthorized placement of donation boxes on private property, operator eligibility requirements (including “fake” charities), health and safety concerns, as well as potential textile diversion opportunities.
An online public survey is available on the project page as part of the consultation phase for this review. In addition, staff will also be distributing a separate online survey for clothing donation box operators directly via email, and contacting key stakeholders directly to obtain specific feedback. The two surveys will be open for a little more than 3 weeks.
The City is advancing this work now with a view to presenting staff reports to the Community and Protective Services Committee and Council when the corporate legislative agenda is further re-established, but exact dates have not yet been determined.
