Scott Street Bus Detour Update
This year, the Stage 2 LRT Project will meet another major milestone with the closure of the Transitway to allow for guideway work to commence. Beginning on June 26, 2022 the Transitway will permanently close to buses between Tunney’s Pasture Station and Dominion Station for Stage 2 LRT construction. OC Transpo buses will travel west of Tunney’s Pasture Station to the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway (SJAM) along Scott Street. The start date of the Scott Street bus detour is coordinated with OC Transpo as part of their upcoming, planned service changes.
To prepare for the detour schedule to begin June 26th, over the course of the next two months Kiewit-Eurovia-Vinci (KEV), the constructor of the Stage 2 Light Rail Transit Project (LRT) west extension, will complete a number of important works and activities along Scott Street required for the detour: utilities relocations, including the installation of a new watermain to Westboro Station, opening of new signalized intersections, completion of a new concrete sidewalk on the south side of Scott Street and a multi-use pathway on the north side of Scott Street, additional road-widening and creation of several new parking spaces west of Churchill Avenue, re-surfacing and line-painting of the entire Scott Street roadway from Tunney’s Pasture to the new Roosevelt Temporary Bridge, and paving of the Roosevelt Bridge. All these works have to be carefully coordinated and scheduled with City of Ottawa and other service providers as part of this very large and complex infrastructure project. When complete, these activities will ensure a safe environment for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists traveling in the area.
The Scott Street Bus Detour is required because of the permanent closure of the Transitway, for the LRT guideway, including tracks, systems and stations.
Most construction is scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 7 pm. However, there will be requirements for overnight work across the entire corridor and some intermittent weekend work. Construction notices will be sent prior to any work starting via the Stage 2 e-newsletter.
