Overall
The City of Ottawa’s Rail Construction Program is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and is in contact with the constructors about adhering to guidance provided by Ottawa Public Health and the Province of Ontario.
Construction is underway across all three Stage 2 O-Train Extensions:
- In the south, there is ongoing work at the Walkley Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) and on multiple rail bridges including Airport Parkway, Uplands Road, Lester Road, Leitrim Road, Bowesville Road, Earl Armstrong Road, and Limebank Road.
- In the east, bridge construction is underway at the Highway 174 Montreal Road interchange and widening work is taking place in preparation for detours and start of station construction.
- In the west, utility relocation activities are underway in preparation for the commencement of cut and cover tunnel construction later this year, preparation for a new road bridge at Iris is underway, and work at Lincoln Fields is in full swing.
O-Train Confederation Line West Extension
Tree Removal:
o Dominion Station is ongoing.
o Tree trimming and minor brush removal will take place in Connaught Park to accommodate a future multi-use pathway and new temporary haul road.
o Pinecrest Creek Pond area for hydro work.
o Tree removal at Lincoln Fields east side of transitway.
o Lawn Avenue parkette trees to be removed in early August.
Moodie Light Maintenance and Storage Facility (LMSF):
o Excavation and embankment construction are nearing completion.
o Culvert construction is expected to begin in early July.
o Moodie Drive watermain relocation planned to start in early July.
Baseline Station Area
o Hydro seeding is complete at the new bus operator building.
o Relocation of utilities for new bus operator building.
o Construction and excavation on new bus operator building scheduled to begin in July.
o Excavation is ongoing in preparation for retraining wall construction near Navaho Drive.
Pinecrest Creek Pond
o Hydro line relocation to start mid-July.
o Geotechnical investigations have been completed. Additional hydro geological testing may be required.
Iris Station Area
o A hydro line is being temporarily relocated on the north side of Iris Street in advance of the culvert extension.
o Foundation construction is taking place to support the future culvert.
o Drilling operations for micro piles is ongoing.
Connaught Cut and Cover Tunnel
o Utility relocation work and manholes is ongoing in Connaught Park and Connaught Avenue.
o Connaught Avenue is being widened near the future tunnel location to accommodate future utility relocations.
o Crews are preparing to construct a pathway on the south side of Pinecrest Creek and preparing to build an access road for hauling in July.
o Pouring is underway on the seventh drill shaft at the Lincoln Fields Flyover Bridge.
Lincoln Fields Station Area
o Crews are relocating a storm sewer that conflicts with the future Lincoln Fields Station and guideway.
o Carling Avenue utility work is ongoing on the south side of Carling Avenue and on the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway.
o Drainage work and road work for temporary bus loop starting soon.
o Soil stripping to begin in July.
o Carling Avenue south excavation is ongoing.
o Night work will occur periodically.
Byron and Richmond Corridor (Byron Linear Park)
o Hydro Ottawa duct bank excavation is ongoing on the north side of Richmond Road between Woodroffe Avenue and Cleary Avenue.
o Sidewalk construction and drainage work is ongoing on south side of Byron Avenue.
o Sidewalk construction will begin on Richmond Road between McEwen Avenue and Redwood Avenue.
o Hydro relocation work is taking place on Richmond Road near McEwen Park and progressing east.
o New Orchard intersection modification work to begin mid-July.
o Investigation for unknown utilities is ongoing.
o Signed parking restrictions will be in place and shifting as construction progresses to different areas throughout this corridor.
Rochester Field Laydown Site
o This site will be used for the coordination of equipment, crews, and materials that will support Parkway Tunnel construction.
o Construction site setup has started with the building of an access road and fence installation.
Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway (SJAM)
o Excavation, granular, paving and drainage work ongoing.
o The pathway on the south side of the SJAM Parkway has been closed with a detour in place.
o Lane closures are required at the SJAM Parkway at Carling Avenue, by Lincoln Fields, in order to relocate utilities.
o Traffic will flip to newly paved lanes in July.
o Outfall construction is ongoing along the SJAM corridor.
Tunney’s Pasture
o Preparatory works for the future Goldenrod Bridge will begin in July.
