Overall
The City of Ottawa’s Rail Construction Program is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and is in contact with the constructors about adhering to guidance provided by Ottawa Public Health and the Province of Ontario.
Construction is underway across all three Stage 2 O-Train Extensions:
- In the south, work is progressing well at the Walkley Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) and on multiple rail bridges including Airport Parkway, Uplands Road, Lester Road, Leitrim Road, Bowesville Road, Earl Armstrong Road, and Limebank Road.
- In the east, Highway 174 road and utility relocation work is ongoing to make way within the centre median for LRT infrastructure. Bridge construction is underway for the rail flyover east of Blair Road, and on two new highway overpasses at the Montreal Interchange.
- In the west, work at the Moodie Light Maintenance and Storage Facility, Queensview, Iris, Lincoln Fields, and Byron Linear Park is ongoing, including construction of the split structure rail bridge, and preparation for the commencement of cut and cover tunnel construction. Preparatory works have also begun at the Holly Acres and Pinecrest Interchanges.
O-Train Confederation Line West Extension
- Tree Removal:
- Dominion Station area still has a few trees awaiting removal.
- Lawn Avenue parkette trees are to be removed in September.
- Skead, Fraser, Mansfield area to undergo utility relocation, and two City trees in the right of way may require removal.
- Behind 747 Richmond seven trees require removal; this work has not been scheduled yet.
- Woodroffe Avenue (Iris Street to Baseline Road) has four trees requiring removal, which is not yet scheduled.
- Moodie Station & Light Maintenance and Storage Facility (LMSF):
- Stormwater relocation, culvert bridge foundation work, and abutment concrete work is ongoing at the LMSF.
- Site preparations for future utility work at Moodie Station has begun. Barriers around the work zone will be installed in the coming weeks.
- Holly Acres
- Fencing is completed, and excavation is now ongoing.
- Relocation of electrical cable for traffic signals will begin in September.
- Pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular traffic movements will be maintained.
- Baseline Station Area
- Excavation is ongoing for retaining wall construction near Navaho Drive.
- Excavation and preparation for utility work and laydown area at the Baseline Bus Operator Building is ongoing.
- Wet utility work is beginning at Baseline & Cobden by mid-September.
- Iris Station Area
- Capping beams are being poured to support the Pinecrest Creek culvert.
- Concrete culvert and steel culvert installation is nearing completion.
- Bus stop along the Transitway is being relocated to accommodate future construction.
- A bus detour and traffic shift are expected to occur in early October.
- Wet utility work will begin at Iris & Navaho in the coming weeks, required for Iris Bridge culvert construction.
- West Split Structure Rail Bridge (south of Lincoln Fields)
- All columns are poured.
- Pier cap pouring is ongoing.
- Retaining wall installation is completed on the north side, and ongoing on the south side.
- North-side abutment construction is ongoing.
- Installation of girders expected to begin at the end of September.
- Connaught Cut and Cover Tunnel
- Sewer relocation work is ongoing along Connaught Avenue.
- Sanitary relocation in Connaught Park is complete, and watermain relocation is expected to begin later this fall.
- Lincoln Fields Station Area
- Crews are relocating a storm sewer and watermain that conflicts with the future Lincoln Fields Station and guideway.
- Carling Avenue south utility work is ongoing; rock breaking under Carling Avenue is ongoing.
- Access Road construction and excavation to support construction of a temporary bus loop continues.
- Rock breaking in Lincoln Fields is required during excavation.
- Byron and Richmond Corridor (Byron Linear Park)
- Storm sewer and drainage work is ongoing.
- Drilling of cylinder piles and support of excavation has started near New Orchard, moving eastward to Cleary Ave.
- Utilities relocation on Byron Avenue is ongoing with temporary road and lane detours to occur this fall.
- Hydro relocation work on Richmond Road near McEwen Park is in progress.
- Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) Parkway
- Construction of drainage outfalls and headwalls is ongoing.
- Construction of haul road is ongoing, along SJAM; future modifications may be required as part of ongoing sewer work.
- Retaining wall construction to support a storm sewer along the future Parkway Tunnel to start in September.
- Goldenrod Bridge (west of Tunney’s Pasture Station)
- Excavation and abutment pouring for the new bridge is ongoing.
- A north-side detour for buses is required this fall.
