Starting in July 2020, Hydro Ottawa will begin relocating electrical infrastructure to accommodate the LRT Confederation Line West Extension construction along Byron Avenue.
Overall, this project includes:
- The relocation and installation of new pole line and adjoining electrical infrastructures; and
- The reinstatement work of the excavated areas to bring the project to completion.
Our preliminary plan estimates that the relocation of the existing electrical infrastructure in the Byron Avenue area, will take approximately 6 months to complete.
Residents will notice an increased construction presence throughout the duration of the project, including excavation activities and construction vehicles. The excavated areas will be restored in accordance with Hydro Ottawa’s obligation under the Conditions of Service and the applicable grant easement. Please note that it is the customer’s responsibility to maintain the restoration work, including the proper development of grass.
Traffic control will be implemented when required in order to ensure that roads remain accessible and safe to residents and staff. In order to minimize noise concerns, we will ensure that the majority of the work is completed weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Over the course of the project, planned power interruptions are expected to occur as a result of this work.
Understanding that this is a sensitive time with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and that many residents are working from home, we recognize that any construction activities and planned power interruption can be very disruptive. As such, we want to assure you that construction activities and power interruptions will be scheduled and planned very carefully.
Hydro Ottawa crews in conjunction with Bradley Kelly Construction Ltd will be working as quickly and safely as possible to minimize disruption. Hydro Ottawa crews and contractors will require access to front yard of premises only and all precautionary measures will be taken when accessing customer’s front yards and ensure social distancing and public health guidelines are respected for the safety of all.
Customers impacted by planned power interruptions related to this project, will be contacted by Hydro Ottawa at least 72 hours prior to the power interruption taking place, by phone, text, email and/or written notice delivered to their door. Customers will also be notified if the power interruption is to extend beyond the original duration time. In case of adverse weather, the power interruption maybe re-scheduled.
