Hi neighbour,
Like many of you, I’m spending today cleaning out my flooded basement, and am wondering where to put all the debris.
Thankfully, we received good news from the City’s Solid Waste team this morning:
Starting on Monday, July 6th, garbage trucks will be in Bay Ward to collect waste at the curb. Residents affected by the storm may set out more than the regular three-item limit.
Here are a few more items to note:
- Please work with your insurance provider first to ensure your damages are documented and, where appropriate, work with the contractor for the disposal of flood damaged materials.
- For residents who cannot wait until their next scheduled collection day after July 6, a special collection request may be submitted online via Ottawa.ca. Please select ‘Unacceptable material’ from the drop down list. This includes residents who have additional organic material generated as a result of extended power outages and cannot wait for their next weekly collection day. Yellow bags will not be required for storm-related household debris. Please ensure all waste is properly packaged and meets collection requirements for size, weight, and bundling.
- UPDATE: For the next few weeks, the city will also accept two garbage bins of construction material per household in the neighbourhoods affected by flooding. We will continue to assess the situation in the coming days and will adjust as needed.
- The Trail Road Landfill will accept residential construction debris for a fee, with rates outlined on ottawa.ca, and will also accept electronic waste for free. It will be open on the next three Saturdays to help accommodate residents affected by the storm.
