I have received many complaints about the northbound Holly Acres 417 exit intersection and agree that it is confusing. I escalated the issue and finally received notice that there will be modifications to reduce confusion. I don’t have the implementation date of the proposed changes since they need to be approved by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). I wanted to share with you the update I received from City Staff:
“I wanted to follow up on our discussion regarding the intersection of Holly Acres Road & Bayshore Station Access / Hwy 417 WB On Ramp and the driver confusion issue that has been observed/reported at this location.
After further discussions last week (internally and with EWC), I did want to provide you with an update that additional signal display modifications have been proposed by Traffic Operations staff and these modifications are currently being reviewed by the MTO for approval. In short, Traffic Operations provided EWC with proposed signal display revisions after issues were reported; EWC has in turn produced the necessary drawings / documents required for MTO’s Review & Approval.
Once the MTO provides their approval of the signal display revisions at this location, we will then look to schedule our City Signal crews to implement the changes. The proposed signal display revisions are intended to alleviate the confusion that has been observed for northbound drivers approaching the intersection, by making conditions more intuitive. As we discussed last week, this intersection is a very unique configuration due to the newly constructed LRT guideway structure and HWY417 westbound on-ramp, so we will certainly continue to monitor this location after the signal display revisions have been implemented on-site.”
I want to thank everyone who shared their experience of the signal at this location with me.
