Recently we received the following update from Staff regarding the Richmond Road renewal project:
The functional design for Richmond Road project from Bayshore Drive to Pinecrest Road has been completed. The scope of work will include road resurfacing, the addition of sidewalks and cycling facilities. More specifically:
- Construction of 2.0m wide concrete sidewalk on both sides of the road, for the full length of the project.
- Construction of raised asphalt cycle tracks on both sides of the road, for the full length of the project, except from 80m west of Dumaurier Ave to 80m west of Highfield Cres (north side) and from 50m west of Dumaurier Ave to 30m west of Grenon Ave (south side)
In segments where cycle tracks are not provided, the project will include painted cycling lanes to provide continuous cycling facilities in both directions, for the full length of the project on Richmond Road from Bayshore to Pinecrest.
Presently, the travelled portion of Richmond Road is at the same elevation as the existing paved asphalt sidewalk. With the introduction of the proposed cycle tracks and sidewalks, there will be a concrete curb at the edge of the travelled road. A storm drainage review is presently being conducted. After the drainage strategy/solution has been selected, the project will be packaged and sent to Infrastructure Services to proceed with preliminary and detailed design. Infrastructure Service will be able to provide an update on expected construction timelines and budget as design progresses.
