Are Presto cards interchangeable between the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa?
Yes, the same Presto card can be used on any of the 10 participating transit agencies in Ontario as well as the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO).
Are there fare discounts? Who qualifies?
Paying per ride by using Presto e-purse offers savings compared to the regular cash fare. If you are a frequent rider, a monthly pass is still your most economical choice. For those who qualify, there are also discounted fares available to different groups. Check octranspo.com for more information.
How can I avoid line-ups at the end of every month when purchasing a monthly pass?
The best way to avoid line-ups is by loading your Presto card online.
Why register your Presto card?
Registering your Presto card protects the funds in your account if your card is ever lost or stolen. You can block your card from use at www.prestocard.ca, by phone, or in person, and transfer your balance to a new card.
Auto load / Auto renew?
You can have peace of mind that your card will never run out if you set it up with:
- Auto load – puts more money on your card whenever it reaches a minimum amoun
- Auto renew – puts next month’s pass on your card whenever you get to the end of the month
Both of these features can be set up online or by mail.
What if my Presto card runs out?
If your card runs out of money and if it’s registered, it will still let you take one last ride in ‘overdraft’. Following that, you will have to re-load it ($10 minimum) and pay the overdraft fee of 25 cents. You can avoid overdraft by setting up Auto load or Auto renew.
