Construction of the building is starting soon. A tree permit was approved in September 2018 for 851 Richmond in oder to facilitate the construction of an 11-storey residential building with underground parking east of the existing building. The general contractor for the site has informed the City that tree removal operations will begin on or about January 27.
Approximately 24 trees will be removed under the permit. Given the size of the building and reconfiguration of the existing drive isles and parking, tree retention was not possible. The majority of the tree removals are in poor condition. Seven of the removals will be on the Christies restaurant property at 809 Richmond Road once the applicant has provided permission form the adjoining property owner. All removals conflict directly with parking and building construction or are in poor health.
