On Sunday October 4th for approximately 15 minutes, starting at 2 a.m., Hydro Ottawa will require a planned power interruption at our Lincoln Heights transmission-substation in order to disconnect a live cable within the station. This work is part of our demolition and clean-up of the station as a result of the fire that occurred there on March 7, 2020. Due to the nature of the work, the entire station must be isolated in order to safely disconnect and remove the cable, and proceed with the removal of the remaining equipment on site.
Our preliminary plan estimates that the power interruption will affect approximately 4,000 customers, and impact neighbourhoods on or near the following major streets:
Major streets affected:
- Carling Avenue (Oakley Avenue – Connaught Avenue)
- Richmond Road (Bellfield Street – New Orchard Avenue)
- Britannia Road
Project date: Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020
Estimated start time: 2:00 a.m. Estimated completion time: 2:15 a.m.
Since a planned power interruption is expected to occur as a result of this work, impacted customers will receive advanced notice of the project this week. Information will also be shared on the Hydro Ottawa website.
Understanding that this is a sensitive time with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and that many residents are spending more time at home, we recognize that any planned power interruptions can be very disruptive. As such, we want to assure you that this power interruption has been scheduled and planned very carefully to minimize potential impacts.
Hydro Ottawa is committed to delivering safe, reliable electricity service and keeping you informed of upgrades and emergency work taking place in your community.
