July 2020
This notice is to advise that, crews and equipment will be relocating utilities, and doing roadwork along Richmond Road and Byron Avenue in preparation for cut and cover tunnel construction. This work will require a reduction of on-street parking spaces. When the station is completed in 2025, it will be accompanied by ‘kiss and ride’ parking, and long-term parking spaces.
WHAT: “No parking” signs have been installed between Woodroffe and Redwood. In areas where parking was allowed previously, the signs have been temporarily covered up.
The work will be done in phases, following the construction of the Byron Avenue south sidewalk, roadworks and widening on the north side of Byron Avenue will begin. After the minor roadwork is completed, parking will be reduced and adjusted for underground utility work at Byron Ave. The final phase is the configuration for Byron Avenue that will remain in place for the duration of the cut and cover tunnel operations and future station work.
WHEN: Starts July 2020
WHY: Parking restrictions on Byron Avenue are required to allow for the shifting of utilities, intersection modifications and the cut and cover tunnel construction in Byron Park.
WHERE: Byron Avenue, from Woodroffe Avenue to Redwood Avenue.
ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
There will be periodic changes to the location and availability of parking spaces, as the construction zone changes.
These street parking spaces will be blocked off with signage and barriers. As construction work progresses in this area, the location of the blocked parking spaces will change. The public can expect to see parking signage and temporary fencing around the work sites; fencing and signage will be relocated as work areas shift.
Construction in this corridor will be ongoing, and temporary minor delays to traffic may occur at times. Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution as traffic patterns change. Motorists should be aware of and adhere to traffic control signage, posted speed limits and traffic control personnel.
The safety of workers and the public is paramount, and we thank you for your patience during construction.
