New painted bicycle lanes are planned for Sherbourne Road between Byron Avenue and Carling Avenue as part of the 2019 road resurfacing program. This is consistent with the Council approved Complete Streets Implementation Framework which directs the implementation of bike lanes and other measures to be considered when roads are repaved.
Sherbourne Road is identified in the City of Ottawa Cycling Plan as a cycling route that connects Carling Avenue to Byron Avenue, including bike routes on Dovercourt Avenue and through the Byron Avenue Linear Park. It also leads to parks, schools and transit, including the future LRT Phase 2 Cleary Station, which highlights the importance of providing a cycling facility on this street.
The proposed pavement marking and signage plan for bicycle lanes accommodates on-street parking on one side of Sherbourne; between Byron Avenue to Dovercourt Avenue on the west side and between Saville Row to Bromley Road on the east side.
