(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Outreach Recruitment team is pairing up with the Algonquin College Policing Professional Development Centre to show potential female candidates exactly what to expect in a career in policing.
Registration will be open until September 24 and the event is limited to 40 participants.

TIME: 10 am – 2 pm
LOCATION: Algonquin College, 1385 Woodroffe Avenue, building P
The event is the first of its kind for Ottawa Police Service and Sergeant Maria Keen, who works in Outreach Recruitment, is one of the organizers.
“We want to open the doors for women to see exactly what a career in policing entails, especially those who have never thought about it before,” said Sgt. Keen. “We want to attract more women to our service as we strive to be an employer of choice.”
What you will see:
Panel discussion with women from various police units,talking about their experiences in policing.
Firearms – Use of Force instructors will show participants use of force options and demonstrate firearm drills.
Defensive Tactics (DT) presentation– will explain the equipment carried on the duty belt and how they relate to use of self defence tactics and hand to hand combat officers may face on a daily basis.
Simulation Lab– Participants will run through simulated scenarios involving shoot/don’t shoot & tactical communications interaction to demonstrate decision making skills our officers deal with.
