The City of Ottawa has a 20-year strategic Urban Forest Management Plan called Putting Down Roots for the Future. Ottawa’s urban forest includes all trees on both public and private property.
As part of that plan, staff are reviewing the City’s tree-planting programs. The City provides a variety of programs and projects for tree-planting along residential streets, in parks, greenspaces and forested areas:
- Trees in Trust
- Commemorative trees
- Parks and streetscape tree planting
- Green Acres – Ottawa’s rural reforestation program
- Schoolyard Tree Planting Grant Program
Through these programs, thousands of trees are planted every spring and fall in neighbourhoods across the City.
If you have ever participated in these programs, the City want to know your experience. If you haven’t participated, staff still want your input. Your ideas will shape the future of tree planting in Ottawa. Please visit our public engagement page and complete our survey.
