OCH met with Toronto Mayor to discuss affordable housing
This week I attended the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) conference in my capacity as the Chair of Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) board. ONPHA is a member funded and directed association that represents nearly 700 non-profit housing providers and local housing corporations throughout the province. .The theme of this year’s conference was “Building for Belonging” where there was a focus delving into the heart of community housing and exploring how we can create a future that is centered on people and their wellbeing. Sessions revolve around the key pillars of leadership, people, and sustainability.
During our stay in Toronto OCH CEO Stéphane Giguere and Director of Public and Stakeholder Relations Danielle McGee and I had the privilege of meeting with newly elected Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. We discussed how we as Ontario’s largest cities, can work together to build more affordable housing. I am pleased to report it was a very productive meeting in discussing strategies to provide housing for those in need. Thank you to the Mayor and her staff for taking the time to connect with us on this important issue.
