The detours that went into effect today affecting routes 87 and 153 are related to construction of the Stage 2 LRT project, which require a full closure of Woodroffe from Knightsbridge to Richmond to remove the existing temporary steel bridge and rebuild the intersection of Richmond and Woodroffe. Pedestrian movements will be maintained, but general traffic and transit operations will be detoured beginning today (Friday, May 26, 2023) at 6:00 pm. Traffic and regular OC Transpo service patterns are anticipated to be restored on Saturday, June 10.
This work will affect OC Transpo Routes 87, 153, and our ongoing nightly Transitway detour. There are no changes to Route 11. On-street information has been printed and is being installed at all affected stops. In addition, the Alerts page on the OC Transpo website will be updated to assist passengers. The service impacts are described below with alternative route options, and a map further below provides an overview of the service impacts.
Route 87 Baseline/Tunney’s Pasture will be detoured along Churchill and Carling. As a result, Dominion Station and bus stops along Woodroffe Avenue from Carling to the Parkway will be temporarily unused by Route 87. Depending on where residents typically board the following options are available:
1. Walk to Richmond Road and board Route 11 (Parliament/Bayshore). Transfer at either Lincoln Fields Station, Scott/Churchill, or Tunney’s Pasture Station;
2. Walk to alternative service stops #7380 or #7379 at Scott and Churchill; or
3. Walk to the Carlingwood Shopping Centre and board the detoured 87.
Due to ongoing work along Richmond Road between McEwen and New Orchard, Route 153 will be temporarily truncated at McEwen Ave. Buses will run from Carlingwood to McEwen via Carling, Croydon, and Richmond. The following options are available for affected users:
1. Walk to stop #5716 for alternative service; or
2. Walk to Richmond Road and board Route 11. Transfer at Lincoln Fields Station for service to the Carlingwood Shopping Centre.
Additionally, the required Stage 2 work also affects the nightly weekday Transitway detour (10:30pm to 6:00am Mon-Fri) and weekend Transitway detour (10:30pm Friday to 6:00am Monday). These express services will be rerouted along Carling and Churchill to avoid the construction, however there are no additional stop impacts associated with this adjustment.
