| As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, Richmond Road will now be closed to eastbound vehicles, along with the existing westbound Richmond Road closure, travelling between New Orchard Avenue to McEwen Avenue. Vehicles will be detoured along Ambleside Drive. What Eastbound motorists traveling on Richmond Road will be detoured onto Ambleside Drive to facilitate the closure of Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue and McEwen Avenue. When As early as Tuesday, May 23 until Sunday, October 1, 2023. Why Construction of the Byron Tunnel across Richmond Road from McEwen Park takes place in a very constrained area. From Hartleigh Avenue to Richardson Avenue the space between the tunnel area and the adjacent residential properties is constrained and the additional space will support the required work on the Byron cut and cover tunnel. Where Richmond Road from New Orchard Avenue to McEwen Avenue.  The construction work outlined in this notice is subject to change. Work may be delayed or extended due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Detour Motorists travelling westbound on Richmond Road will continue to detour onto New Orchard Avenue, travel west along Ambleside Drive, travel south along McEwen Avenue and re-enter Richmond Road at McEwen Avenue. Eastbound motorists on Richmond Road will detour to McEwen Avenue, travel east on Ambleside Drive, travel south along New Orchard Avenue and re-enter Richmond Road at New Orchard Avenue. Motorists should be mindful of new pedestrian configurations including a pedestrian crossing on Ambleside Drive. Richmond Road businesses within the detoured corridor remain open and accessible. Motorists looking to access businesses on Richmond between McEwen and New Orchard will follow the signage posted on site. Access to properties along Richmond Road and Byron Avenue between McEwen Avenue and Ancaster Avenue, will be maintained from the Richmond Road/McEwen Avenue intersection, unless temporarily closed for construction. Richmond Road will be closed to truck traffic between Carling Avenue and Woodroffe Avenue from May to December. The safety of the public and workers is paramount, and we thank you for your patience during construction. Anticipated Impacts Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change. The sidewalk on the north side of Richmond Road will remain closed from 955 Richmond (Ottawa Honda) to McEwen Avenue. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured along a temporary pathway north of the construction site across McEwen Park terminating at the intersection of Ambleside Avenue and McEwen Avenue, or along the new sidewalk on Ambleside Avenue. In addition, the temporary sidewalk between Hartleigh Avenue and Richardson Avenue will be removed. A designated pedestrian route will be identified with signage and barrels. The pedestrian crossing between Byron Avenue and Richmond Avenue will be relocated on the East side of the Richardson Avenue. The two controlled pedestrian crossings that were installed on New Orchard Avenue and Ambleside Drive in August 2022 will remain operable. Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution and adhere to posted signage when localized detours are in-place, to ensure safety. Accessibility Accessibility is an important consideration for the Stage 2 LRT project. The Stage 2 team makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites.
