As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, crews and equipment will be working on Edgeworth Avenue for the relocation of underground storm water and sanitary line utilities. This work involves a road closure (allowing local traffic only), rock breaking, asphalt removal, and operation of heavy machinery.
WHAT: Edgeworth Avenue north will be closed during construction and will only be accessible to local traffic. Noise and vibration from construction involving rock breaking, asphalt removal and hydro-vac truck operations.
WHEN: As early as March 29 to mid-June 2021, during daytime hours of 7am – 6pm.
WHY: Utility relocation work on Edgeworth Ave is required prior to Parkway tunnel construction.
WHERE: Edgeworth Avenue north, between south of Lawn Avenue to Richmond Road.
COMMUNICATION: The contractor will reach out (via door knock) a day or two prior to work that would impact their connection advising the residents to limit flushing and water out put. However, it should be noted that this work will not technically affect the residents; their sewage will still discharge and KEV is required to have a VAC truck on site to clean up any such occurrences.
Any work that will occur on the water lines will be coordinated by City Drinking Water Services (DWS) and formal notice will be provided by them as per their protocols and based on their schedule.
ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
Access for local traffic only during construction. Flag persons will be onsite to direct traffic. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Edgeworth Avenue, with pedestrian mobility maintained with posted signage. Short interruptions to water service during the daytime will occur periodically for reconnections.
The work will start in the intersection of Lawn and Edgeworth. Once they are finished in the intersection they will start to move north on Edgeworth.
Residents nearby can expect to hear noise and vibration from crews and equipment including hydro-vac truck operations, asphalt removal equipment and machinery. Noise and vibrations are monitored and reported to the City. Construction fencing will be in place along the work area. Driveway access will be maintained however some delays may occur while crews are working directly in front. Residents should expect short delays periodically during the day. On-street parking will not be available in this area during construction.
Construction vehicles will access the area primarily from Lincoln Fields via Richmond Road. Final paving will occur this summer after work is completed.
