East-West Connectors (EWC) have a noise by-law exemption for borehole drilling near Pinecrest Station and Queensview Station. Crews will begin drilling boreholes along the future guideway between Dumaurier Avenue and Connaught Avenue (see images below). As some boreholes are within close proximity to the Transitway and Highway 417, some work may be required take place during overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts.
While we only anticipate 20 nights of work, this exemption takes into consideration the time required for all approvals, public notification and any unforeseen delays.
Truck mounted drill rigs will be used, along with additional support trucks and power tools. The loudest equipment emits approximately 62 dba 30 meters from the source, similar to typical highway sounds. Noise from geotechnical drilling should not affect residential areas any more than normal highway traffic and will be monitored throughout the duration of this work. The closest borehole location is approx. 40m away from residential areas at Pinecrest Road. Minimal light impact is expected as efforts will be made to avoid directing lights towards residences.
