Update on investigative early works as part of the Stage 2 Confederation Line West Extension
This notice is to advise that, as part of Early Works for the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit project, geotechnical investigations will be taking place in the Holly Acres Road underpass of Highway 417 to collect soil, water and bedrock data that will inform design and construction of the Confederation Line extension.
WHAT: Drilling boreholes up to 200 millimeters in diameter and 30 meters deep along the LRT alignment.
WHEN: As early as Friday May 3 to Tuesday May 28. Some work will take place during overnight hours from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
WHY: Geotechnical investigations are required to understand the soil, groundwater and bedrock
characteristics along the rail alignment, to inform detailed engineering for construction. Traffic
lane reductions are needed in your area to carry out the work.
WHERE: Five boreholes will be drilled in the Holly Acres Road underpass of Highway 417.
PEDESTRIAN & CYCLING IMPACTS
Existing pedestrian and cycling access around the drilling sites will be maintained in a safe and efficient manner with the installation of appropriate warning and detour signage and monitoring by traffic control personnel.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
There will be alternating lane closures along Holly Acres Road in the underpass area. To minimize daytime traffic lane reductions, most of the geotechnical work will take place overnight.
Access to bus stops in the area will be maintained at all times.
RESIDENTIAL & BUSINESS IMPACTS
Noise from drilling and related activities will occur intermittently at moderate levels.
