Emergency and Protective Services has launched the Property Standards Search Tool on Ottawa.ca, under the Rental Housing section. This tool allows residents to check if a residential address in Ottawa has had property standards violations in the past five years, helping renters make informed decisions.
Developed through the Rental Accommodations Study and approved in August 2020, the tool was created with input from ACORN Ottawa, landlord associations, and City partners. It excludes commercial and institutional properties and complies with privacy laws.
Search results show:
- A general property description (e.g., “Multi-residential building with 50+ units”)
- Any recorded violations under By-laws 2013-416 & 2005-208, including type, date, and status (open/resolved)
Only confirmed violations requiring enforcement action are listed—no personal details or general complaints are included.
This tool is part of the City’s broader efforts to support housing needs, which also include by-law enforcement, fire safety, community paramedicine, emergency preparedness, and public education.
