The City is partnering with Payment Source, a company that accepts in-person cash payments at Canada Post outlet locations across Canada. This partnership will allow the City to expand its ability to accept cash and Interac debit payments for bills or invoices for City services. This service provides clients an additional payment option and enhanced flexibility, as most Canada Post outlets are open evenings and weekends.
Payment Source utilizes the existing bank payment infrastructure to submit payments on behalf of residents and recovers its costs through a fee charged to the user at the time of the transaction. There is no cost to the City.
This new payment option is in addition to the existing payment options already available to residents.
Revenue Services will begin to pilot this service in March 2020, starting with Overpayment Recovery, which serves clients who owe funds to the City due to the overpayment of Ontario Works. The pilot will run for 6 to 12 months and will be assessed based on client uptake and satisfaction. Revenue Services is collaborating with the Community and Social Services Department to notify clients of the new payment options.
Revenue Services may expand the program to other lines of business such as property tax bills, water utility bills, and various payment streams after a review of the pilot is complete.
