Hi neighbour,
As spring gets into full swing, neighbourhoods across Bay Ward are starting to come alive with garage sales, neighbourhood clean ups, and opportunities to get together and enjoy the warmer weather. I’m looking forward to seeing some of you out in the community over the next few weeks.
Wading Pools, Splash Pads, and Beaches
Earlier this week, we received news on the opening dates for City beaches, wading pools, and splash pads- a sure sign that summer is just around the corner.
- Splash pads across the city will be in operation from May 16 until September 20. For a full list of splash pad locations and schedules, please visit: https://ottawa.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/water-activities/splash-pads
- Wading pools across the city will be open between June 13 and August 23. A full list of wading pools and their corresponding schedules is available on the City’s website.
- All City beaches (including Britannia) will be open for supervised swimming from Saturday, June 20 until Sunday. August 30.
It’s official: Ottawa is a Bird-Friendly City
Here’s some news worth “tweeting” about: earlier this week, Nature Canada announced 5 new Bird Friendly Cities, and Ottawa is on the list! I was pleased to support my colleague Councillor King’s motion at the Environment and Climate Change Committee meeting earlier this year, and the work of advocacy organizations like Bird Friendly Ottawa to create safer urban environments for birds. You can learn more about the Bird Friendly certification on the Nature Canada website.
Virtual Community Information Session: New Zoning By-law: Thursday, May 21, 7 pm- 8 pm
My office regularly receives questions from residents about what the City’s new zoning by-law could mean for their neighbourhood. As such, we’re teaming up with the City’s planning department to host an informal virtual presentation and Q & A on the new zoning by-law, and how it affects Bay Ward. You can register for the session online:Registration Link
I’m looking forward to this discussion!
Update on Stage 2 Construction: Long Duration Closure of Hwy 417 Eastbound on-ramp from Southbound Pinecrest Road
Earlier this week, we received news from Stage 2 that KEV would be closing the Hwy 417 eastbound on-ramp from southbound Pinecrest for almost 3 months starting this Saturday, May 9th. While this work is necessary for the Stage 2 West Extension, I am once again frustrated with the extremely short notice for this long-term closure. More information and detours on the closure are available below in the Stage 2 Construction section . As always, if you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Stage 2 team (stage2@ottawa.ca), and keep my office in the loop (bayward@ottawa.ca).
