| It’s been another eventful week in Bay Ward and at City Hall! Coffee Chat: Monday, June 16th I’m looking forward to chatting with neighbours in person at my pop-up coffee chat on Monday, June 16th at Britannia Coffeehouse (273 Britannia Road) from 1:30-3:30 pm. Kersten Nitsche, Manager for Development Review (West) for the City of Ottawa will also be there to answer residents’ questions about the new zoning by-law and developments in our ward. We’ve also received some feedback that residents would like us to hold a coffee chat in the evening, to accommodate the schedules of people who work during the day. We hear you, and will work on scheduling our coffee chat next month for the early evening. As always, if you have anything you’d like to discuss with my office don’t hesitate to reach out to: bayward@ottawa.ca City Council- Advocating for sustained and increased funding for Supportive Housing from the Provincial and Federal Governments At Council this week, I introduced a motion to send the Office of the Auditor General’s report on Supportive Housing to Ministers in both the Provincial and Federal governments. This motion passed with unanimous support, demonstrating that all members of Council recognize the need for more sustained operational funding for supportive housing in our city. Supportive housing models provide coordinated health and social supports for people who need them to live independently. Examples of this model already exist in Ottawa, through Options Housing and Salus Ottawa. In both my role as Chair of Ottawa Community Housing, and as a member of City Council, I am committed to advancing this work to ensure that people with complex needs have the supports they require to live safely and independently. Transit Committee: Improvements to reliability of Route 11 and updates on Stage 2 LRT Transit Committee had a packed agenda yesterday, with officials from OC Transpo sharing updates on bus, rail, and ParaTranspo service, as well as news on the Stage 2 LRT project. Of interest to Bay Ward residents, there was an update on initiatives to improve the consistency and reliability of Route 11 service, with data on run times and observed travel times. I had requested this analysis from OC Transpo to look into why the service was so unreliable. I was pleased to see this level of detail from the team at OC Transpo, and am looking forward to working with them to see improvements to service reliability on this popular route. Please see below for a slide outlining some of the challenges and mitigation strategies to ensure residents get the regular, timely bus service they deserve. | The Stage 2 team also shared updates on the line 2 extension, including the Richmond Road Complete Streets project. I understand the significant impact of this construction on people and businesses in the area, and will continue to engage with Stage 2, local community associations, and businesses to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed. Exploring Bay Ward by bike This past Tuesday, I was happy to join EnviroCentre and people from across the community for a tour of Bay Ward by bike. As an avid cyclist, I always welcome opportunities to explore cycling infrastructure, and look at how we can make our neighbourhood safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers alike. On a final note, I’d like to wish all the dads in Bay Ward a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday!
