Spring Open House – Thanks to all who came out!
This past Wednesday evening we had our Spring Bay Ward Open House session with a presentation from Stage 2 LRT on the progress of their work. It was amazing to see how much work has been completed particularly the seven transit stations and the entire underground network of tracks. The work that is ongoing and frankly a headache for all, is the Richmond Road Complete Streets project which involves massive underground utility work such as replacing aging watermains. This amounts to messy construction and multiple detours. There is no way to sugarcoat the serious inconvenience this project has caused to community and small businesses; however, it is moving forward and the Richmond Road component of this project is scheduled to end by the 4th quarter of 2025. In 2026 we will see Byron Avenue go through the same messy process of being dug up and having aging underground utilities replaced. The Stage 2 LRT East line service is expected to be open in 2025 and the West Line that runs through Bay Ward is expected to open in 2027.
The Bay Ward Open House also had a presentation from OC Transpo on the News Ways to Bus schedule changes which begin on April 27th. Many residents came to state their frustration for the current bus service which has meant late or cancelled buses. The New Ways to Bus is a streamline of the bus services with many low ridership routes reduced or eliminated. Many bus routes will be connecting with the new Trillium train line system already in operation. Overall, the schedule changes will mean more buses and drivers available for the remaining routes. We all hope these changes bring better more reliable bus service. Here is a link to the website to check on your bus route.
