This week at City Council’s Planning Committee we had the release of the Official Plan, Ottawa Next: Beyond 2036 for the next 25 years of growth. The plan is to move Ottawa forward in making it the most liveable mid-sized city in North America. I hope that as a City Council we do not leave off at making Ottawa just liveable but also a healthy City that is actively making a difference on climate change. We need a City that offers positive options for residents to use transit, have more green space and make our communities walkable. I also asked our senior staff to consider a gender lens on the official plan so that there is equity for genders on access to affordable housing, child care, and neighbourhoods with necessities such as grocery stores. These goals will take time, but they are attainable. The City will be seeking consultation on the Official Plan. I hope you will offer your views on this important subject for our City’s future.
