Come outside!
There has been a lot of discouraging news with the latest pandemic lock-down here in Ottawa and it is not easy to swallow after many of us have done our part for many months being COVID-Wise. Vaccines are getting done but we still need to be careful until everyone is inoculated.
The good news is that it is still okay to be outside as long as you continue to follow lockdown guidelines. Cross country skiing, walking in the park and snowshoeing can all be done while maintaining physical distancing. This is why having the Britannia Winter Trail is so important to our community right now.
The Britannia Winter Trail is created by having a snowmobile with a groomer behind it flatten down the snow so it can be walked or skied on easily. It may sound simple but it is carefully operated by a group of dedicated community volunteers who plan out the routes and make sure they stay in good shape. It is about their love of community and to ensure that we have these trails for all to enjoy.
The Britannia Winter Trail started out as a pilot project last year for the month of February. It was a great success with many residents coming out to use it. That was before the pandemic! Currently with little opportunity to do indoor sports, go to a gym or travel local residents are taking advantage of this urban multi-use winter trail so close to home. While skating rinks and toboggan hills get crowded, it is easier to maintain physical distance while gliding through the park trails right here in Bay Ward.
Let’s all get out if we can and enjoy the outdoors as the temperatures stay comfortable. Have a great weekend!
