This afternoon the provincial announcement that we are reverting to a modified Stage 2 response to COVID-19 for the next 28 days. This includes prohibiting indoor dining at restaurants and bars, and closing gyms, movie theatres and casinos. The government is also asking people to only leave their homes for essential purposes.
As we head into the Thanksgiving long weekend many of us are having to reconsider how we traditionally celebrate the holiday. This is typically a time when we would normally be gathering together with family and friends, however this year we need to do all we can to reduce our social interactions especially on the heels of today’s announcement. I know that this is a very difficult time and can appreciate the sacrifice many of you are making not spending time with loved ones, as I found myself with tears in my eyes as I told my son we could not see each other in person this weekend.
With the rise in the number of COVID cases in the City of Ottawa an in-person holiday gathering poses a significant increased risk for contracting the virus. If we are diligent and do what we can over the next month we can lower the transmission of COVID. If we do not do this it will lead to stricter lockdown, closure of businesses, public venues and even schools. Please only gather with those persons in your household and if possible, virtually with those who are not within your residence.
For more information on today’s provincial announcement and up to date information on COVID-19 I encourage you to visit the Ottawa Public Health web site along with the Province of Ontario’s web site.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
