This past week was the Transit Challenge and for commuting purposes to city hall it was mostly uneventful. I managed to figure out how to get in a swim in on my way to work by taking the Route 85 to Plant Pool. I usually go to Pinecrest Recreation Centre which is not far from where I live, but because of its location, it is not on a direct bus route. This morning I got a skate in on the Rideau Canal steps away from the University of Ottawa transit station where I get off to go to city hall. These were some successes and they reminded me of how important it is to have recreational facilities on major transit routes.
My biggest transit challenge was getting to a board meeting at the Ottawa Community Housing headquarters located on Auriga Drive. I had to rush to another event at Lansdowne Park immediately after our meeting. For this complex route, I carpooled with my colleague Councillor Fleury. It was great way to have some time together to chat.
In general, bus riding gives me the opportunity to check emails which would not be possible by car. It also gives me a chance to interact with many residents and relate to their concerns. I will continue to take the bus on non-complicated days, but truth be told I am longing to ride my bike when the weather becomes more favourable.
Have a great weekend.
