Congratulations to our Canadian Women’s Soccer team winning the gold medal!
Over the past week the stands may have been empty, but millions have tuned in virtually around the world to watch athletes compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, myself included. I am so proud of our Canadian participants especially those who call Ottawa home.
The athletes have not only had to focus on their sport, they have had to focus on their health and safety while complying to strict restrictions put in place for the event to occur. The pandemic has created a unique experience for the athletes and the fans.
As I have watched the various athletes compete, I acknowledge a common theme, comradery. No matter who you are or where you are from each athlete appreciates that they are all there because they love the sport they are in. In a year of struggle and uncertainty I am proud to see that the Olympics is providing a space for inclusivity and accessibility. We still have a long way to go from this perspective and we need to keep focusing on the strides to move forward to keep this momentum building.
