It is part of the role of a municipal council to ensure the accountability and transparency of municipal operations. A municipality must adopt and maintain policies to try to ensure accountability and transparency to the public. To further its commitment to accountability and transparency, City Council approved the establishment of an Integrity Commissioner in July 2012 as part of the City’s Accountability Framework, which contains key elements of governance renewal intended to make municipal government more transparent and accountable.
Transparency is a fundamental part of the City’s mandate and as elected officials we must uphold and represent this core belief. It is our duty to be open, honest, and objective in representing our residents. To be proactive and mindful of our actions both on and off the job and be cognoscente of the boundaries and rules that have been set before us.
Development is part of our city’s present and future growth as we are moving forward on intensification. We need to build public trust on developments and citizens have to know that the process used was thorough and fair. To maintain and gain public trust as this process occurs it is essential that we are accountable and transparent.
