Please be advised that beginning as early as April 6, KEV will be excavating 2 test pits (approximately 10 days), in the Byron Linear Park to gain a better understanding of the soils and the brittleness of the rock which will assist in the planning of their cut and cover excavations. By gaining a better understanding of these soils, KEV will be able to better plan the initial stages of excavation and support of excavation activities. This will allow for the work to be expedited, thereby reducing time of local disturbance to the public and adjacent properties.
The pits will not be left open for more than two (2) days for this exercise. The holes will be protected by dirt berms and steel fencing until they are filled. The Rock excavation will be done using a CAT 374 excavator and a Cat349 excavator with hammer will also be used on Test Pit #2. The Test Pits will be excavated 3-4m deep into rock by a mechanical excavator and will typically be 4m wide (depending on the bucket width) and approximately 8m long.
