The timeline for the overall project construction extends to 2025, however the Byron Park/Richmond Road section of the project will only have increased traffic disruptions between mid-2020 through mid-2023. The extent of the disruptions will become less as time goes on depending upon which area of Richmond Road is being considered. Most of the disruptive work between McEwen and Cleary will be completed by mid-2022 with work at Cleary intersection taking place in 2023.
Also, next year residents will see that a lot of the multiple traffic closures that are happening now will stop and there will be long-term traffic patterns put into place. This is because right now, and for the next several months the Project is building sidewalks and moving utilities out of Byron Park and along Richmond Road to allow the actual construction of the Cut & Cover Guideway to begin. This requires intersection-by-intersection closures and disruptions. When the excavation work begins in the park, traffic will be placed into one place for months at a time.
After 2023 when the majority of the Cut & Cover Guideway construction is complete, it will take another couple of years to install all of the track, electrical and controls for the System, as well as build and fit-out the New Orchard and Cleary Stations. These follow-on operations generally do not require as much traffic disruption.
