As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, crews and equipment will be working on Richmond Road, and on McEwen Avenue on road widening, new sidewalks, and to construct temporary road decking to allow construction of the LRT to continue beneath the roadway. This work involves asphalt removal and paving, a new intersection at McEwen Avenue and Richmond Road, demolition of the existing intersection, installation of road decking, and sidewalk detours. The access to 1195 Richmond Road via McEwen Avenue will be modified.
WHAT: Road and bridge deck construction work will occur starting in mid-August; followed by shifting McEwen Avenue to the east and Richmond Road to the south, in early September. Traffic lane closures and sidewalk detours will be in place.
WHEN: As early as August 16, 2021 through October 15, 2021.
WHY: This work is required to maintain traffic and mobility while the Cut & Cover Tunnel work occurs underneath Richmond Road.
WHERE: On Richmond Road and McEwen Avenue.
HOURS: Monday to Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
Pedestrian mobility will be maintained with posted signage, fenced routes, and a temporary walkway. Flag persons will be onsite daily during work periods. After-hours, pedestrians will be able to navigate safely along a temporary walkway. Changes to mobility in the area should be anticipated as the work progresses. Residents nearby can expect to hear noise and vibration from construction and equipment including pile drilling, heavy machinery, concrete barrier placement, deck installation, and asphalt paving. Noise and vibrations are monitored and reported to the City. Construction fencing with noise barriers will be in place around the work area.
The safety of the public and workers is paramount, and we thank you for your patience during construction. Accessibility is an important consideration for the Stage 2 LRT project. The Stage 2 team makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact stage2@ottawa.ca.
