As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, crews and equipment will be constructing a new concrete sidewalk along the north side of Ambleside Drive. Following completion of the sidewalk installation in October, westbound traffic from Richmond Road will be detoured until end of 2022 via New Orchard Avenue to Ambleside Drive to McEwen Avenue. The new sidewalk will support pedestrian connectivity, during the detour, which will allow the contractor to significantly reduce the required time for construction of the LRT tunnel along Richmond Road between New Orchard and McEwen Avenues while maintaining traffic flow. Once details are finalized, further information related to the Ambleside Drive detour will be provided.
WHAT: New concrete sidewalk construction on the north side of Ambleside Drive, and the installation of two new pedestrian crossings.
WHEN: Monday to Saturday – 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sidewalk construction to begin September 12, 2021 through October 2021.

WHY: The new concrete sidewalk is being installed to increase pedestrian mobility and safety for residents.
WHERE: North side of Ambleside Drive, between New Orchard Avenue and McEwen Avenue.
ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: Pedestrian mobility will be maintained with posted signage around the work zone. Residents nearby can expect to hear noise and vibration from construction and equipment. Residents will be notified in advance of any driveway access restriction. During the curb and sidewalk installation it will not be possible to cross it, and it will be blocked off. All efforts will be made to minimize impacts to residents during construction. Pedestrians will be able to use the south side of the street during construction. Bus stops will be temporarily moved onto the roadway during sidewalk installation.
Future work is required in this area.
