Yesterday the Light Rail Subcommittee received a presentation update on the status of construction of Stage 2 LRT as well as the city’s action plan response to the Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Inquiry.
Many of the recommendations from the inquiry have been fulfilled and others are in progress. Some of which were directed to the federal and provincial government, but many are the city’s responsibility. After a less then illustrious opening to the Stage 1 LRT system, the OLRT Public Inquiry gave the city a road map on what needs to be fixed and what processes need to be changed going forward.
The timeline for completion of the Trillium Line (north/south) is pushed back to late spring/summer of this year. We want the system to be well tested and ready for passenger use. As much as we all dislike delays there are lessons learned that thorough testing is essential, and it is better to wait then have a system that needs to stop and be adjusted over and over again. Like many of you, I look forward to riding this train as soon as it is ready.
