There is no doubt that this past year has been challenging for everyone. So it is important that we stop every now and again to take a deep breath and know that yes we are all in this together but we are also dealing with different levels of stress and anxiety. I once heard someone say, “We may be in the same boat, but we are not all riding the same waters.”
To get through difficult times it is important that we remain understanding and empathetic to others. It is often healing when we share our worries and concerns with those we feel safe to talk with. Being able to open up and share something you’ve been keeping to yourself for a long time can feel like a weight has been lifted. You might learn that the person you’re talking to has had some personal experience or knows someone in their family who has gone through something similar, which will help you to feel less alone. Talking about mental illness is the key to creating positive mental health and feeling supported.
DIFD (Do it for Daron) at The Royal Ottawa Foundation would like you to be a part of a movement, that will help inspire others to accept and support those affected by mental illness, called Flip the Lens on Stigma. All you need to so is share your voice by creating a 30 second video that creatively expresses the theme of mental health or mental illness.
