Bay Ward resident Elsa Lessard turned 98 on Thursday, July 2nd and celebrated with a dance (pictured above the Dancing Queen).
Since a party was not possible during this time, her friends got together and had 98 birthday cards sent to her .

Get to know Elsa a little more:
Elsa Lessard served in the Second World War with the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (known as the WRENS). Her positive energy and selflessness are always evident in everything she undertakes. She was the last President of the Ottawa WRENS Association, and kept the Association together 3 years longer than anyone thought possible. Miss Lessard has devoted countless hours to increase public awareness of the WRENS. For the past ten years, shed has been involved with the Veterans’ Week workshops and tables at Billings Bridge Shopping Centre. Miss Lessard has also been involved with the commemorative programmes developed by the History Department and students at Notre Dame High School in Ottawa throughout the years. Through her fundraising efforts, Miss Lessard was instrumental in the creation of the Memorial Plaque for the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service, 1942-1946, which is installed at the Canadian War Museum.
